The Institute of Marine Affairs (IMA) is a multi-disciplinary marine and environmental research organisation dedicated to collect, analyse and disseminate information relating to the economic, technological, environmental, social and legal developments in marine affairs and to formulate and implement specific programmes/projects. The Institute also has an Information Centre which promotes an understanding of and appreciation for all aspects of the marine related environment to its many stakeholders. The Institute has four research programmes: fisheries and aquaculture, environmental research, marine chemistry, and marine governance and policy. Those programmes include activities related to: coastal monitoring, development of biodiversity indicators, ecosystem monitoring, geographic information systems, legal aspects of coastal conservation, among others.
